I got two new treasures in my collection, one thanks to the lovely Kesi, who met Kit Harington (Jon Snow/GoT) in person after his play “Doctor Faustus” and kindly got his autograph for me ❤ Thank you SO much!! 🙂
And the other one was kind of a hurried purchase… I had been trying to get Anton Yelchin’s (Chekov/Star Trek ( & into Darkness)) autograph for a while and when I read the sad news that he had died, I bought his autograph – for a “decent” price, since the dealers apparently hadn’t caught up with the news yet – (let’s face it, the prices for his autograph will be insanely high now for quite a while). I’ll treasure this one and will go and watch the new movie with very mixed feelings – excited about the movie but very sad about the death of this talented young actor.
I added the full scans to the Star Trek and Game of Thrones page respectively; if you want to know the password, comment on this post or send me an e-mail to the address on the right)
I was in London for a few days, for the Star Trek and Star Trek into Darkness concerts and there was a great surprise at the ST concert on Thursday: The first person to come onto the stage was Simon “Scotty” Pegg himself, who was beamed there by accident. 😉 He quickly brought onto stage Michael Giacchino, the composer – I didn’t expect that since someone else conducted the concert -, who then brought on no other than JJ Abrams!!
What a brilliant start! The concert was wonderful and gave me goosebumps several times. I hadn’t seen the movie for quite a while and hadn’t seen it on the big screen before (only got to see it when it was already available on DVD for some time, since I wasn’t really intrigued by Star Trek before). So it was a wonderful experience and the orchestra outdid itself.
After the show of course they received standing ovation and then Michael Giacchino came back onto the stage and conducted a wonderful piece of the score he did for the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. I guess I’ll get this soundtrack, even though I don’t know if I’m gonna see the movie in cinema.
During the intermission I had bought the booklet for ST and STiD in Concert, since I wanted to try to get at least Michael Giacchino’s autograph afterwards – in a situation like this my hunting instincts always kick in 😉 It took quite some waiting, but then JJ came out and signed for all who were still waiting (I guess it was almost an hour after the concert ended). Then Simon Pegg, who was extrordinarily friendly. He was so willing to sign everything and take photos with each and every person who had waited there for them. What a nice guy! And last but not least, Michael Giacchino. So I got two photos (with Simon and Michael), and four autographs, all on the booklet plus Micheal’s autograph also on the concert ticket. So it really was a great evening in every respect. 🙂
The concert on Friday was equally great. Michael is so down-to-earth, really nice. He signed my STiD ticket, too. I’m more than happy about how things turned out at these concert days 🙂
Since Michael had told us on Thursday, that Benedict Cumberbatch would have come to the STiD concert on Friday if he hadn’t had other obligations, I did a bit of research and found out that he was at the Hay Festival on Friday, but his “duties” there ended Saturday at noon, so I figured there was an (astronomical) chance he would attend the STiD concert on Saturday, so I went there just in case (not to the concert, but I spent the evening outside, drawing :D) Well, he didn’t show, but at least I got two more autographs from Michael for friends and fellow collectors, and an autograph from the maestro, Ludwig Wicki, for myself. So time wasn’t entirely wasted. 🙂
PS: Here‘s a nice report about the premiere on Thursday. 🙂
Just a short update, since I more or less stopped collecting (what’s the point if my letters get lost).
I bought a signed Trading card with Mark Harelik‘s autograph; his role Kashyk in ST: Voyager is one of my favourite guest roles, and I gave up on the letter I sent him.
Here are my HobbitCon autographs: Mark Atkin, Sadwyn Brophy, Ken Stott and Richard Taylor.
And after three months of nothing in the mail, I got one very kind reply from John Rawls this week, who played the orc Yazneg in the first Hobbit movie, and kindly signed my photos, answered my questionnaire and wrote a nice letter. I’m really delighted about this success, after this long dry spell, but I’m done getting my hopes up and be disappointed, so for now, I’ll stay away from this hobby.
At the end of November I got autographs from Mark Bramhall, who appears shortly in Star Trek 2009 as an Vulcan Elder. He also played Gul Nador in ST: TNG. I don’t know this series yet, but knowing me I guess it’s one of the next series that I’ll try to watch and I guess I’ll like it, so I decided to also send a photo of his role there. Thankfully he signed and personalized both.
I added the full scans to the Star Trek page (Other movies -> ST)
Wooow… I only hope that this is legit, because I’m really happy about this autograph. I first tried to get Brad’s autograph 5 years ago, because he’s – obviously – brilliant as Grima Wormtongue in Lord of the Rings. But I’m kinda glad I didn’t get his autograph before, because I only got drawn into the Star Trek universe recently (compared to my addiction to the Middle Earth universe). So back then I didn’t know him for his role in ST: Voyager. Lon Suder was such an interesting role, I daresay one of the most interesting guest roles on this show, and I would have loved to see more of him. Anyways: this time I had sent a pic of him as Grima and as Lon Suder, so this is a great addition to both collections, for LotR and Star Trek!Plus, it is nice to get an autograph at least now and then!
I added one scan to the LotR section, the other one to the Star Trek page (Other movies -> ST)
Yay, a great addition to my Star Trek collection, which is – slowly, but surely – growing. Of course, it’s still lacking the signatures which are more difficult to get, but maybe I need more patience. Really not my strength though 😀
I liked her short performance at the beginning of the 2009 Star Trek and I would have loved to see her again, but I guess one cannot have everything (and I certainly prefer more screentime for Zachary Quinto ;)) But I’m very glad that I got her autograph now 🙂
You can see the full scans in the Star Trek section (Other movies -> ST)
Although she’s only seen shortly, I genuinely liked her role Gaila in the 2009 Star Trek movie. She was certainly a match for womanizer Kirk, surprising him with her pillow talk, and her confession that he wasn’t exactly the first or only guy whom she was dating 😀 It’s such a shame that she (probably) got assigned to another ship (the USS Farragut?) – although her delight in this attribution scene was really cute – and got killed by Nero. I would have loved to see her again! With a cheeky tongue like that she even could have made Spock blush (don’t you dare reading anything X-rated in this statement!) *chuckle*
Jacob Kogan (young Spock / ST 2009) & Tim Russ (Tuvok / ST: Voyager)
I purchased these two autographs, since I tried – so far unsuccessfully – to get Jacob’s autograph, and as for Tim Russ, I planned to write him eventually, but when the same seller offered this beautiful collage (you can see the full scans in the Star Trek section: Other movies -> Star Trek), I couldn’t resist. And I think for him a purchased signature is enough for me (while I’ll probably still try to get a personalized autograph from Jacob some day), so it’s a very nice addition to my ST collection. Slowly but surely I get the Voyager crew together. 🙂
Full scans are in the Star Trek section (Other movies -> Star Trek)
Wooooohooo! I was hoping to get his autograph since I saw Star Trek ’09 last year. I absolutely love every single scene of him, beginning with the ones that aren’t even in the movie, but in the deleted scenes – when Amanda gives birth to Sarek’s son and the first thing he talks about is a naming suggestion, only to pause when Amanda doesn’t seem convinced at first. Even better, the “fight” between Amanda and Sarek after Spock got bullied and she asks him if Vulcans walk out on each other if they get completely disgusted by each other, and he increasingly puzzled answers “no” and she walks away. His looks are priceless. A few scenes in Star Trek into Darkness actually reminded me of this scene and his confused look 😀 And my third favourite scene is when Spock snaps after Kirk provokes him over his mother’s death and Sarek confesses that he married Amanda because he loved her.
It’s too bad we don’t get to see Sarek in STiD – I really would have loved to see a glimpse of New Vulcan (where he certainly was at that time).
I added the full scans to the Star Trek section (Other movies -> Star Trek). Thank you so much, Todd for helping me! Wouldn’t have gotten this success without you!
At first Seven was the character I liked least of all the ST: Voyager characters, but that might be because when I first saw the series, the TV station showed not all episodes and in a totally chaotic order (rather no order at all), and not further than half of the 5th season. So when they stopped the re-run, I had seen most of season 1-3 and then only a handful of 4 and 5, and Seven didn’t seem to fit at all. By now I know the entire series and I really like her. Same with Tuvok, btw, whom I didn’t like at first, but now I do. So I decided to give it a try an the first attempt to get Jeri’s autograph was successful, as you can see 🙂 A nice addition to my growing Star Trek collection.

Photos of the actors are at the bottom of this blog entry, the scans of the autographs integrated in the text. If you want to see the full scans, just comment here or send me an email (Fantasyfirstname.lastname@example.org – you need to write something expressive as subject, otherwise the spam filter will eat your mail), and I’ll send you the password.
After the disappointment of the Berlinale (which, I have to admit, was still successful, considering I got three nice autographs, so in retrospect I’m pretty content with that), I had thought I wouldn’t want to go to another movie event, but as it so happened, I wanted to take two days off work anyways after finishing the next edition of the journal I work for, and Wednesday was a holiday in Germany, so taking off Monday and Tuesday was pretty perfect. Plus I had collected enough points with Deutsche Bahn that I could have one ride for free and the other for a reduced fee, so it didn’t cost me much.
So even when it was clear that Benedict Cumberbatch wasn’t going to attend the German Star Trek into Darkness premiere, I still wanted to go, especially to see Zach in person, and to get Simon Pegg’s autograph.I already got Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto via mail (and the latter also through a wonderful person whom I can’t thank enough for that! *waves at Lindsay*). But of course I wasn’t gonna miss this opportunity to see still one of my favourite actors (I guess if there had been a second, Cumberbatch, that would have been an overkill ;)).
I arrived on Saturday because there had been a photocall announced for Sunday, 14 o’clock, in front of the Brandenburg Gate. Sunday morning Nicole sent me a short message that they moved the location and shortly after told me, where. Assuming it would still be at the same time, I went there only to learn a few minutes later that they had also changed the time and the photocall already happened at 10:30 in the morning. Since I didn’t have much else to do – of course I could have visited a few spots in Berlin, but I knew then in which hotel the actors were and there still was the chance to see them, as they had spent quite a lot of time outside on Saturday. Yes, I was so crazy to spent 5 or 6 hours in front of this hotel, going back and forth between the main entrance and the back door. But I didn’t see a glimpse of the actors. I learned later that Simon came out to give a few autographs and that Alice Eve came out for an interview and also signed a bit, but of course at these points I was at the back entrance, so I didn’t see them. The last bit of time I spent at the front entrance and missed a chance to see Zach. Somehow he managed to slip into the hotel right under everybody’s noses. He wore a cap which shadowed his face so only a few people recognized him, but too late, and most of us didn’t even see him because we were distracted for a second by something else.
Well, what an unsuccessful day – but weirdly enough I wasn’t disappointed at all. I had talked with a nice person half the time and it was sunny, and a nice day to spend outside, so somehow there was no disappointment. Also I had succeeded to leave my letters to Simon and Alice and Zoe at the reception, so maybe these would bring success.
But of course I hoped that the next day would be better, regarding autographs. Since I’m too green in IP collecting, I asked Nicole’s friends if I could accompany them on Monday, and thankfully they agreed. They planned to go there early, 11 o’clock in the morning already, to make sure that we’d get good spots. I set out for that direction at 10:30 but decided to give the hotel another try. So I stood there – this time completely alone – when a car with the Star Trek premiere logo arrived. I got excited, because the people who got out, didn’t enter the hotel but stood there as if they waited for something, or rather, of course, someone. And in fact a few minutes later more cars with the logo arrived and Alice Eve and Simon Pegg got out. Fortunately for me two autograph hunters (no, I don’t like dealers, but in this moment they had their use) were there, because I wouldn’t have recognized Alice Eve 😀 and two other people held up Simon Pegg, so I got Alice’s autograph first and then reached Simon in time before he could enter the hotel and got his signature as well.
Alice had signed on the wrong page: I had put the photo into a note book and instead of signing the photo she signed the blank page and stated afterwards that she didn’t notice the photo *lol* oh well, but it was a start, and a good one too, considering that these two were the two of the five cast members attending, whom I didn’t have yet.
When there were no more cars coming and the other two people said that they had driven behind the cars and that they all started together, it was clear that the other actors had entered the hotel via the back entrance, so I left for the Sonycenter to claim my spot at the fence where the others were already standing. 😉
I leave out the next 7 ½ hours because it was mainly boring, waiting waiting waiting. Oh, and annoying… it’s incredible how annoying some people can be. There was one person in particular who wouldn’t stop talking. I’m glad I a) brought a book and b) my music, so I could put in my earwigs and try to drown out the brainless drivel with that. Not always successful, but partly.
The only interesting thing was when some people prepared the fences etc, and put these large STiD premiere banners on the metal fences, and I asked one of them, if we could get one these things after the show, and he said he didn’t know, because some of them would be used for the aftershow party, but we should ask again when they detach these things after the show.
Then the cast came. Well, first came some “celebrities” (with big “”)… one can’t even say they’re B-list celebrities, they must be Z-list celebrities which nobody knew. But then, finally, JJ Abrams. He got out of the car and right to one of the “studios” they had build (one of these big white bridge imitations), to be interviewed. And then, of course, he went to the farthest end of the fences and began to write autographs and make photos. That was the most incredible thing. Not only of him, but the entire cast attending: they were SUPER patient. But JJ was exceptional. He must have spent 1-1 ½ hours signing autographs and taking picture, with and for everybody who asked. Wow. But they all took their time. I lost my sense of time but I guess all actors spent 40 minutes outside. Of course, with a few minutes for the press, but they signed a lot!
First to arrive was… uhm, good question. I think it was Zoe, but I’m not sure. [edit: no, according to my photos Zach came first, but I’m really not certain if Alice maybe was there before… I lost track] Zoe, as everybody of the cast, went to the other side of the black carpet first and we were really worried, but as I said and probably will say again, they signed so much and took their time.
The first to come to us, was Zoe and she signed my 8×10 picture of Kirk, Spock and Uhura.
After that, Zachary, who also signed the cast shot and, without me asking for it, the character pic (Spock in the volcano) which was right beneath the cast photo and jutted just a bit under it. Awesome 🙂
I asked him if I could get a picture with him and I got one. Don’t have it yet, so I’m not sure, but I think I look terrible on it (more terrible than usual ;( ) Such a shame!
After that, Chris signed the cast pic as well, so I had reached my main goal. I tried to get his sig on the character pic (Kirk running through these red plants) as well, but didn’t. Oh well, I really don’t care, I’m more than happy about the pic with three signatures.
Alice Eve also signed and this time I only held the picture in front of her, not the note book. She signed and even personalized it. Very nice.
Simon Pegg then stopped signing a few people before us, promised to come back after the interview he had to do, but when he came back, he started signing a few people before us in the other direction and didn’t come back to us. And JJ Abrams? He was still busy somewhere on the black carpet and it took him another 15 minutes to get to us. Of course he signed for us as well and took a picture (or rather he had employed one of the security guys to take all the pictures) 😀
Then the actors did a bit for the press and the fans who stood between the press and the cinema entrance, and we decided to go to the back entrance of the cinema, and the security guys let us in and wait there behind the fence, where the actors were about to go up on the balcony. After waiting a bit, they came by us, one by one. First, I think, Alice, then Simon (both signed the small 6×4 pictures I still had), then Zoe, who signed the big character pic for me (Uhura standing there with a gun). [edit: wrong again… apparently it was too exciting to recall it correctly. According to my photos, Zoe came before Alice].
Of course then I hoped to get Chris’ autograph on the character poster as well, but he stopped signing right in front of me. Pity, but I really can’t be disappointed, not even a bit. This evening went way too great!
And then Zach again (or actually Zach before Chris, I think). He also signed another small pic for me and I managed to take a pic, which I think is beyond cute – the last of the Zach photos at the bottom of this post :D).
After that we also managed to get Bryan Burk, the producer’s autograph. He signed the same pic for me which JJ already had signed. So I really got everybody 🙂
We went to where they had parked their cars but there they got in without signing again and as I said, I can’t be disappointed about that and I’m not. This evening was super great. And there was gonna be an additional bonus for me: We went back to the black carpet, where the fences were being built back, and we saw that five girls just got these big banners. That was all, but then I asked the man whom I had asked before, to remember that, and apparently he did, so he said he didn’t have more for now, but we should wait. He did a big traraaa out of it and while the others gave up, I guess I was persistent enough and actually got one of the two more banners he came back with.
Isn’t that great? I guess the corridor between my bedroom and my living room will get a new outfit for a while 😀 [edit: *lol* nope… my corridor is way too small. I guess I’ll put it in my living room for a while then]
So you see, it was an absolutely successful adventure for me.
I only wish, Benedict Cumberbatch had been there too. I.MUST.GET.HIS.AUTOGRAPH! *sigh*
I already told you in the Chris Pine post how I got to watch Star Trek 2009 just out of boredom and immediately became a fan, and Spock was and still is my favourite character in the movie. It’s so fascinating how Zachary Quinto manages to show such deep emotion in a person who pretty much purged all emotion. My three favourite scenes are the following: 3rd: The scene after Spock relieves himself of duty, when he, noticeably hurting, walks through the ship to the transporter room, where Sarek then tells him, that he married Amanda because he loved her (not for his job as embassador). 2nd: After Spock’s rescue mission to Vulcan, when he realizes that he lost his mother forever, staring at the spot where she was supposed to stand after Chekov beamed them up from Vulcan. And 1st: When Kirk provokes him by telling him that he never loved his mother, and one can see him getting more and more furious and unable to control himself but still tries, and then finally snaps and almost kills Kirk, and when he slowly comes around after Sarek calls his name.
But of course the not hurting side of Spock is awesomely acted, too, for example when Cpt. Pike makes Kirk First Officer and Spock tells him that he’s not familiar enough with human pranks, etc., and when he discovers the literally futuristic functions on the small ship of his older self (“fascinating!”) 😉
I simply love Zachary’s performance throughout the entire movie and can’t wait to see him in Star Trek into Darkness.
I’ll probably watch “Heroes” very soon (because of him), so I didn’t mind that the photo is one of Sylar in Heroes – I just wanted to have his autograph so badly. Now I can at least try more calmly to get his signature on a pic of Spock. I’m also pretty curious about his role in “American Horror Story”, but since I can’t take seeing horror movies, I probably won’t watch that one, although I heard that he was brilliant in it.
And what also impressed me very much about Zach was his commitment in the US election campaign, the way he stood up and spoke for Obama on various events.
So I’m very happy to have his autograph now, although of course I hope to get a personalized autograph from him on a pic of Spock eventually.
Added the full scan to the Other movies section, since I still haven’t decided where to put a Star Trek page *lol*
Woooooohoo! I didn’t dare to hope to get this one back, even when I saw another success from him via this set, because there have been quite a few occasions where I didn’t get anything back while others didn’t, also this time I added an IRC because I had ran out of UK stamps before. And now I got this amazing autograph! He’s great in the 2009 Star Trek movie! I have to admit, I’m not really a Trekkie, I only knew and loved Star Trek Voyager before this movie (okay, not true, I had seen Nemesis once on TV but it didn’t really stick, so it doesn’t count. Maybe I should watch it again eventually.), and I only watched the 2009 ST because I was pretty bored one day and I had set my DVR to record it earlier. I immediately fell in love with this movie and with the entire main cast (especially Zachary Quinto, but this post isn’t about him *lol*). I really liked Chris Pine’s performance as Kirk. It can’t have been easy to walk in these big footsteps – and getting beaten up and hanging around all the time *chuckle*
I can’t wait to see the sequel and see how he developed in the meantime! I’m very happy to have his autograph now! 🙂
Added the full scans to the Other movies section (until I figure out where I put a new Star Trek page for Voyager and the 2009 ST, to movies or TV shows :D)
Kate Mulgrew (Capt. Kathryn Janeway / Star Trek: Voyager)
2/2 photos signed
I already tried to get her autograph last year via venue, after I fell in love with ST: Voy. Since it’s over a year since that attempt failed, I tried again via her agency and now got a response (and very quickly). Yay 🙂
Added the full scans to the Other TV shows section, but I may have to create a new subpage for all kind of Star Trek autographs soon (at least I hope so, because I’m trying to get the cast of the ST 2009 now – although that’ll be quite a challenge!)
I only watched the first 3 1/2 seasons of ST:Voy so far, but I really like the series and can’t wait til Kabel1 repeats the rest of the show. Somehow I like the whole cast and I can’t wait to get the opportunity to get their autographs one by one. A FedCon visitor offered this autograph, so I jumped at the chance.
I already added the full scan to the Other TV shows section.
