Star Trek in concert

I was in London for a few days, for the Star Trek and Star Trek into Darkness concerts and there was a great surprise at the ST concert on Thursday: The first person to come onto the stage was Simon “Scotty” Pegg himself, who was beamed there by accident. 😉 He quickly brought onto stage Michael Giacchino, the composer – I didn’t expect that since someone else conducted the concert -, who then brought on no other than JJ Abrams!!

What a brilliant start! The concert was wonderful and gave me goosebumps several times. I hadn’t seen the movie for quite a while and hadn’t seen it on the big screen before (only got to see it when it was already available on DVD for some time, since I wasn’t really intrigued by Star Trek before). So it was a wonderful experience and the orchestra outdid itself.

After the show of course they received standing ovation and then Michael Giacchino came back onto the stage and conducted a wonderful piece of the score he did for the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. I guess I’ll get this soundtrack, even though I don’t know if I’m gonna see the movie in cinema.

During the intermission I had bought the booklet for ST and STiD in Concert, since I wanted to try to get at least Michael Giacchino’s autograph afterwards – in a situation like this my hunting instincts always kick in 😉 It took quite some waiting, but then JJ came out and signed for all who were still waiting (I guess it was almost an hour after the concert ended). Then Simon Pegg, who was extrordinarily friendly. He was so willing to sign everything and take photos with each and every person who had waited there for them. What a nice guy! And last but not least, Michael Giacchino. So I got two photos (with Simon and Michael), and four autographs, all on the booklet plus Micheal’s autograph also on the concert ticket. So it really was a great evening in every respect. 🙂

Star Trek in Concert Michael Giacchino

The concert on Friday was equally great. Michael is so down-to-earth, really nice. He signed my STiD ticket, too. I’m more than happy about how things turned out at these concert days 🙂

Michael Giacchino2

Since Michael had told us on Thursday, that Benedict Cumberbatch would have come to the STiD concert on Friday if he hadn’t had other obligations, I did a bit of research and found out that he was at the Hay Festival on Friday, but his “duties” there ended Saturday at noon, so I figured there was an (astronomical) chance he would attend the STiD concert on Saturday, so I went there just in case (not to the concert, but I spent the evening outside, drawing :D) Well, he didn’t show, but at least I got two more autographs from Michael for friends and fellow collectors, and an autograph from the maestro, Ludwig Wicki, for myself. So time wasn’t entirely wasted. 🙂

PS: Here‘s a nice report about the premiere on Thursday. 🙂

Mark Gatiss

The third autograph I got in May: Mark Gatiss! I didn’t expect to get this back, since the play ended in February, but I’m allthemore happy that I did. I just love “his” Mycroft!

Leslie Hope

Funny… after three months of nothing I get two successes in one week. Yesterday I got Leslie Hope’s autograph. She plays SecNav Sarah Porter on NCIS and President Kelly Foster on Revolution.

autographs since February

Just a short update, since I more or less stopped collecting (what’s the point if my letters get lost).

I bought a signed Trading card with Mark Harelik‘s autograph; his role Kashyk in ST: Voyager is one of my favourite guest roles, and I gave up on the letter I sent him.

Here are my HobbitCon autographs: Mark Atkin, Sadwyn Brophy, Ken Stott and Richard Taylor.

And after three months of nothing in the mail, I got one very kind reply from John Rawls this week, who played the orc Yazneg in the first Hobbit movie, and kindly signed my photos, answered my questionnaire and wrote a nice letter. I’m really delighted about this success, after this long dry spell, but I’m done getting my hopes up and be disappointed, so for now, I’ll stay away from this hobby.

:O  :O  :O  :O  :O  I never ever thought I would get his autograph. I’ve not seen an autograph from him since 2007, and I only started to try to get his autograph 2009. He was on my Most Wanted list for quite a while, but I gave up on that some time ago. His role Colby on Numb3rs was one of my favourites.

And yesterday I got these two autographs and a lovely note! Now I have all the main cast together. So happy about that! 🙂

Wow! I did not expect to get an answer from him, because I hadn’t seen any success since Heroes (but I just saw that there were actually other successes from him in 2013). I’m very glad about this; I really liked his role in heroes, although – or because – he reminded me so much of Jake Green in Jericho, (btw. also combination of two brothers… Peter and Nathan, Jake and Eric. One the rebell, one the “good boy”… more or less 😉

I just loved the friction between Peter and Sylar! Too bad that the series ended after four seasons. Although it had its weaknesses, maybe even more so than other shows, it still is one of my favourite TV shows!

Isn’t this a cool note?! Never expected that!

This is a nice first autograph of 2014! Of course the tributes’ roles in Hunger Games are all pretty small but Thresh did play a (literally) vital part in the 74th Games, and Rue and Thresh were certainly the most likable tributes. It’s a very nice addition to my Hunger Games collection, which reminds me that I need to get started with writing to the tributes of the 75th games. 🙂

I wish you all a Happy New Year!

Yay! After writing him back in 2009 I waited quite a while before I tried again. He’s a great actor! I don’t know whether I only know his “mad” roles by chance or if he mostly does mad roles, but any way, in HP, Troy and Kingdom of Heaven he does a brilliant job!

In June/July I recorded and watched The Tudors. Of all the queens, Henry VIII “wasted”, I still liked his first wife, Queen Catherine of Aragon, best. Of course the series follows the historical events – otherwise I would have loved to see her be reinstated as Queen (if I remember correctly at some point Henry regretted his decision to leave her).

At the end of November I got autographs from Mark Bramhall, who appears shortly in Star Trek 2009 as an Vulcan Elder. He also played Gul Nador in ST: TNG. I don’t know this series yet, but knowing me I guess it’s one of the next series that I’ll try to watch and I guess I’ll like it, so I decided to also send a photo of his role there. Thankfully he signed and personalized both.

Wooow… I only hope that this is legit, because I’m really happy about this autograph. I first tried to get Brad’s autograph 5 years ago, because he’s – obviously – brilliant as Grima Wormtongue in Lord of the Rings. But I’m kinda glad I didn’t get his autograph before, because I only got drawn into the Star Trek universe recently (compared to my addiction to the Middle Earth universe). So back then I didn’t know him for his role in ST: Voyager. Lon Suder was such an interesting role, I daresay one of the most interesting guest roles on this show, and I would have loved to see more of him. Anyways: this time I had sent a pic of him as Grima and as Lon Suder, so this is a great addition to both collections, for LotR and Star Trek!Plus, it is nice to get an autograph at least now and then!

I added one scan to the LotR section, the other one to the Star Trek page (Other movies -> ST)

I’m still very stressed and tired after work, so I’ll make it quick. It seems to be the weeks of the Hunger Games. Last and only autograph in October was from Stanley Tucci, now this, and then a very successful premiere of Catching Fire (post will follow in a bit).

2012 continues to be a weak autograph year, with an occasional success. Especially since Catching Fire will air soon, I’m very grateful for this success now. He is awesome as Caesar Flickerman in the first movie! I think that he is so well known by his name, and I (apparently, as I found out after watching the Hunger Games) had seen him in Margin Call – but I would not ever have recognized him. Now, that I know, I see the similarity, if course, but hardly. He seems to be like a chamelion. If you put photos three roles I know know him for – in Hunger Games, Margin Call and the new Percy Jackson movie, next to each other, it’s as if there’s a completely different actor every time. I find that very weird, but fascinating 😀
So I’m very glad to have his autograph now. But my general autograph success rate is way too low for me to really enjoy this hobby at the moment.

This was a very quick success. I don’t know when exactly I sent my letter, but it was round about the season finale of the White Queen, so some time in late August. While I generally enjoyed the show I wasn’t that excited about it. There was only one character that I fell in love with, so to speak, and that was Aneurin’s character, Richard Duke of Gloucester. He did a great job playing this loyal brother – and his becoming king. Since I’m not too studied regarding history of England, it was a surprise for me that Richard made himself king after Edward died. I really enjoyed Aneurin’s acting (not to mention that he’s such a handsome guy! ;)) and I’ll certainly look for him in other british TV shows and movies now.
So I’m very pleased about these autographs 🙂

Wow, this took very long, almost three years! Of course I had given up on this, and I got her autograph in the meantime, but I’m very glad that I got those back, because I really love the photos, especially the one with her orange dress.
I still think it’s a shame that Merlin ended (and that they really screwed up the ending)!
